This is a post about Eiichiro Oda. I decided to write this post because I kept concentrating on Masashi Kishimoto, and although he IS my favourite mangaka,I have to write about many others also.

Eiichiro Oda is a 38 year-old Japanese manga artist, best known for his series One Piece, which is the highest-selling manga series of all time (over 280 million copies worldwide till now). One Piece's popularity resulted in him being named one of the manga artists that changed the history of manga.

He was born in Kumamoto (Japan), his favourite animals are big, gentle dogs, he loves 70's music and his favourite mangaka is Akira Toriyama(...just as Masashi Kishimoto's ('-_-) ).

Here is Eiichiro Oda drawing Monkey D. Luffy,( the main character in One Piece) for Shonen Jump(one of the most famous magazines for shonen mangas):

At the age of 17, Oda submitted his work Wanted! and won several awards, including second place in the coveted Tezuka Award. That got him into a job at the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, where he originally worked as assistant to Shinobu Kaitani's series Suizan Police Gang before moving to Masaya Tokuhiro on Jungle King Tar-chan and Mizu no Tomodachi Kappaman, which gave him an unexpected influence on his artistic style. At the age of 19, he worked as an assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki on Rurouni Kenshin, before winning the Hop Step Award for new artists. Watsuki also credits Oda for the creation of the character Honjō Kamatari who appears in Rurouni Kenshin.

During this time, he drew two pirate-themed one-shot stories, called "Romance Dawn", which would debut in Akamaru Jump and Weekly Jump in late 1996-early 1997."Romance Dawn" featured Monkey D. Luffy as the protagonist, who then became the protagonist of One Piece. While Oda was an assistant of Watsuki, his colleague was Hiroyuki Takei, and the three of them are good friends He also stated in a Shonen Jump Alpha interview that he was friends with Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, the author of Toriko.

This is his desk--preety messy, but artists are weird and that's what makes them unique and makes their art (manga in this case) so wonderful :

And here we have Oda-sensei who enjoys drawing and I would say living because he is smiling so wide and just covering everybody in positive atitude:) :
Here is some sort of a tribute (I'd say) to One Piece, his greatest work of art:
In 1997, One Piece appeared for the first time in Weekly Shōnen Jump and promptly became one of the most popular manga in Japan. His biggest influence is Akira Toriyama, who is the creator of Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump.
In an interview with Shonen Jump, when asked what his three favorite manga by other authors were, he stated 'everything by Akira Toriyama'. Oda and Toriyama have made a one shot called Cross Epoch containing characters from Toriyama's Dragon Ball and Oda's One Piece.

I couldn't have possible write this without adding some pages of his manga--One Piece, right?
So here we go:

In a 2008 poll, conducted by marketing research firm Oricon, Oda was elected fifth most favorite manga artists of Japan. He shared the place with Yoshihiro Togashi, creator of YuYu Hakusho and Hunter × Hunter.

Eiichiro Oda is married to Chiaki Inaba, who had played Nami during Jump Festa One Piece stage performances.
In a recent Japanese fan poll, Eiichiro Oda is currently ranked the 48th Most Popular Character in One Piece, despite the fact that he has never included himself in any issue of the manga (excluding SBS).
He voiced the character "Odacchi" in a soccer-themed short that aired with the 3rd One Piece Movie. "Odacchi" is Oda's nickname, and he played soccer when he was younger.

Now, in ending, I'd like to say that I have always noticed that the "rival" of One Piece is Naruto and although my favourite is Naruto , I really appreciate both of them and I truly recommend them both to you.

Thank you for reading and I'll make sure to publish this kind of articles once in a while. If you have any requests about a mangaka you would like to know more (just say the name of the manga and I'll find the author) or any suggestions I look forward to hear them.

    1. No, One Piece won't end soon. As Naruto, it is one of the most successful manga and also the best selled manga ever (over 270 million copies sold) so there's no reason to be stopped now or in the near future.
